VARESE – The Prefect of Varese Salvatore Pasquariello and the General Director of ATS Insubria Salvatore Gioia, during the recent meeting of Provincial Committee for Public Order and Securitywhich was attended not only by the Police Commissioner, the Provincial Commander of the Carabinieri and the Provincial Commander of the Guardia di Finanza, but also representatives of the Veterinary Department of the Agency, who examined and outlined the preventive and repressive paths to be activated by the Institutions and of the Police Force whenever critical situations arise following the danger caused by dogs or groups of dogs wandering and outside the control of their respective owners.

“We have codified the methods of intervention and harmonized the regulatory aspects regarding wandering dogs, sharing the indications intended for the Municipalities and the Police to standardize the practices for managing attacks by dogs carelessly left free to wander or otherwise escaped to the property” they comment from the strategic management of ATS Insubria.

The meeting also made it possible to define the communication synergies between the veterinary districts of the Agency and the local police to promptly report to the local administrations cases of multiple dog escapes, detected through the active trapping service in the area. “As part of the many prevention activities that ATS is called upon to activate, the provisions shared with the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Security, regarding wandering dogs, will allow us to intervene in an even more punctual way and in connection with the individual territorial realities – they explain from the Agency -. We would like to remind owners of their responsibilities and the conscious management of their dogs. Finally, we recommend conscious and cautious behavior on the part of all those who spot wandering dogs.”

The Prefecture would like to point out in particular that the joint circular sent to the Mayors, the Police Force and the Local Police on 23 April highlights that the primary good that it wants to protect is that of the safety and public safety of citizens, without however, neglecting the welfare of the animals themselves.
