A quarry transformed into a landfill: disfigurement in the Alta Murgia Park. 400 trucks of construction waste disposed of, nine under investigation

Trucks that entered a protected area (special conservation area) of the Alta Murgia Park full of waste and left empty, because they unloaded construction material in a quarry, which was transformed into an illegal landfill. The waste was also buried causing damage to the environment. All on a daily basis. This is what was discovered through the video surveillance system by the forestry police. The entire area covering almost 9 hectares was seized.

Nine people were registered in the register of suspects: Gioacchino Dileo, Domenico Sciannanteno, Anna Celestina Ardino, Elisabetta Anna Nuzzi, Pamela Vincenti, Erasmo Dileo, Stanimir Ilchev Kostadinov, Nicola Lospalluto, Donato Laborante. They are jointly and variously responsible for environmental pollution, illegal landfilling, falsification of documents, and illicit management and mixing of waste.

According to what was ascertained by the forestry carabinieri and the soldiers of the Altamura company, the suspects would have made 400 trips using vehicles loaded with waste materials from the construction activity which would have been poured and buried in the quarry that had been abandoned for some time. The volume of waste illicitly managed would be equal to 8 thousand cubic metres. Calcestruzzi Petilia Costruzioni Generali srl, Gelma Società Cooperativa, SDC Società Cooperativa, Costruzioni Dileo Srl are four companies involved in the investigation coordinated by the Bari prosecutor’s office.

The illegal dumping of waste would have caused enormous environmental damage due to the “compromise and deterioration of the site”, the foresters explain in a note. In addition to the quarry, the seven trucks used to transport waste were seized.

The investigating judge Alfredo Ferraro, at the request of the prosecutor Baldo Pisani, ordered the preventive seizure of 8 trucks owned by the companies under investigation.
