“To Momo too many vibrations caused by the trains: the wall collapsed”

«The vibrations caused by the transit of railway trains favored the collapse of about fifty meters of a solid enclosure wall». This is what Giovanna Francione claims in her house in via Marconi in Momo, not far from the tracks. “We live in a building – she says – which can be considered historic, it had not previously had problems of this kind.” The dirt road known as via Marcello Fortina separates the villa that belonged to the notary Borroni from the roadbed.

«The perimeter wall had stood for at least a century and yet suddenly it fell – says the woman -. Other cracks have subsequently appeared which tend to grow in other parts of the villa.”

The cry of alarm launched with her husband Giangiuseppe De Simone intends to draw attention to the RFI project to abolish the seven level crossings present in the Momo area: «The suppression of the crossings – she says – is motivated by the desire to increase the number of the convoys in transit and above all by the increase in the speed of passage. It means that the vibrations transmitted to the surrounding terrain will undergo an unprecedented enhancement. What will be the effects on the foundations of buildings? The inhabitants will have to take responsibility for making their homes more resistant.”

The couple invite those who will be called upon to evaluate the projects presented by RFI to take into account the significant side effects generated by the passage of the trains on the population who have lived in close contact with the tracks for decades: «In the recent past – concludes Giovanna – there were no never seen walls collapse and cracks. The well-being of those who live near the tracks must not be neglected in order to increase the volumes of goods transported”. —
