Green light for the reimbursed supply of the life-saving drug Baqsimi for the last month of 2023. This was decided by the Regional Council which approved the resolution implementing Regional Law no. 32/2023, which regulated the supply of the life-saving drug Baqsimi for social purposes for the last month of 2023, and Regional Law no. 37/2023, which guaranteed the reimbursed supply of the drug also for 2024.
The drug Baqsimi is indicated for the treatment of severe hypoglycemia in adults, adolescents and children aged 4 years and older with diabetes mellitus. In particular, 150 thousand euros have been allocated which will help reduce the costs borne by families intending to avoid the danger of inexperienced intramuscular administration of alternative drugs. The use of the medicine through the spray formula, an alternative to inoculation, in fact allows the patient suffering from serious forms of diabetes to use the medicine more promptly, without resorting to the intervention of nursing staff: in addition to an improvement in his style of life, also greater serenity in accessing and attending social or educational facilities in which the presence of nurses is not contemplated.
The financing is disbursed to all local health authorities with which discussions have taken place. The total amount is divided on the basis of the data acquired by the Medicines Section and Aress, 50% on the basis of epidemiological data and the remaining 50% on the basis of drug consumption data relating to 2023. The access method the benefit is exclusively that of reimbursement, by the local health authorities, of the expense incurred by the applicant.
