Jazz music in its most diverse facets, including new and exclusive productions, great musicians on the world scene and emerging artists, in theaters and clubs throughout the city and a great response from the public, with almost every concert sold out, both of the main stage and of the clubs. These are in brief the results of the twelfth edition of Turin Jazz Festival which has just ended.

A great result for the 11 days of programming, from 20 to 30 April, which saw an attendance of 13,139 spectators at the 17 concerts of the main schedule and 3,900 at the 34 concerts in the clubs. 33 Jazz Blitzes, which involved 1,350 people, while Jazz Talks and Jazz Specials were followed by 1,140 enthusiasts. A total of 19,529 attendancewhich marks a 6% increase compared to 2023. The presence of spectators from all over Italy and abroad at the concerts was notable, some of whom came specifically to Turin to follow the TJF during the long weekends of 25 April and 1 May.

When we started working on the 2024 edition of the Torino Jazz Festival – declared the artistic director Stefano Zenniwe imagined offering a portrait of today’s jazz through the art of the most diverse musicians, without locking ourselves into non-existent enclosures, to compose a tapestry of sounds. Judging by the enthralling involvement of the city, the enthusiasm of the public and even the thanks of the musicians, that tapestry has come to life in beautiful forms. Thanks to jazz, created by oppressed people to be able to express themselves freely, we are able to oppose the darkness with the wonderful light of music”.

Long applause and standing ovation also for the Malian singer Fatoumata Diawara, who overwhelmed an audience of over 1500 spectators with the energy of his music during the concert on the occasion of the Liberation Day at the Teatro Regio. Of note is the collaboration between the Torino Jazz Festival and the Cinema Museum, with the screening of four documentaries dedicated to John Zorn and Duke Ellington, including the world premiere of Steve and the Duke, and the Suspended Groove exhibitions, dedicated to past editions of the TJF, and Teranga Mon Amour. Souvenirs of Senegal.

The final concert of this edition, Tuesday 30 April, was entrusted to Paolo Fresu Quintet, together with the Torino Jazz Orchestra on the stage of the Giovanni Agnelli Auditorium. A sold-out original production, with direction and arrangements by Paolo Silvestri.

The Torino Jazz Festival returns next year from 23 to 30 April 2025, with the thirteenth edition. In the meantime, jazz lovers will be able to participate in over 15 concerts of the Torino Jazz Festival Piemonte, from June to October 2024 in the provinces of Turin, Alessandria, Asti, Biella, Cuneo, Novara, Verbania and Vercelli.
