Historical celebrations in Portella della Ginestra for May Day
Like every year, in Portella della Ginestra (Palermo), the traditional celebration will be organized which intends to remember the massacre that occurred in 1947, on the occasion of which 11 people were brutally killed, including labourers, farmers, women and children.
Palermo: Architectural and cultural treasures
In Palermo the May Day holiday is certainly an opportunity to be exploited to fully experience the architectural and cultural beauties of the city. The historic center of the Sicilian capital is particularly popular, on an itinerary that includes the Quattro Canti, the Cathedral, Palazzo Reale and the Palatine Chapel.
Back to origins in Valledolmo
In the Palermo area, in the town of Valledolmo, the XXIII edition of “Agriculture Days – Back to the origins” takes place. This year’s edition will last from Friday 28 April to Monday 1 May and will involve over 300 exhibitors.
Festivals and tastings in Catania and its province for May Day
Even in Catania and its province there is plenty of space for festivals and events dedicated to tasting. The Nebrodi Ricotta and Provola Festival ends in Maniace (27 April – 1 May), while in Acireale the final day of the traditional Nivarata (29 April – 1 May), the Sicilian granita ritual, is celebrated.
Nature and gluttony in Syracuse for May Day
For those who love nature we would like to point out the open doors, with free entry, of the Botanical Garden of the Etna capital. In Syracuse, again for those with a sweet tooth, we highlight the Strawberry Festival organized at the Mediterranean Hippodrome. The event will begin on April 29th and will culminate on May Day.
Street Food in Oliveri
The first stage of “Street Food – Sicily on Tour”, the traveling festival dedicated to street food, is scheduled in Oliveri, in the province of Messina. It begins on April 28th, concluding on May 1st.
