BRINDISI – It would have been a tragic mistake: the grandmother – as it turns out, and not the mother as initially learned – would have diluted the powdered milk in wine and not in water. For this reason, a four-month-old baby was taken from Francavilla Fontana to the emergency room of the Perrino hospital in Brindisi. The effects are those of an ethyl coma.
Given the seriousness of the situation, the healthcare staff acted quickly once they learned what had happened: the little one drank the entire portion of milk. Immediately taken in for emergency treatment, he underwent gastric lavage, but the situation did not improve. He was then intubated and stabilized. The episode happened yesterday, Monday 29 April 2024.
After the intervention of the Perrino health workers, the four-month-old baby was taken to the Giovanni XXIII pediatric hospital in Bari, where he remains today. At the time of writing, his condition appears stable. The little boy is still in the intensive care unit, the prognosis remains reserved, but he shows a cautious optimism.
It is the second episode of intoxication within two days: on Sunday 28th there was another case, with completely different contours (as described in this article). Four people, including two minors, felt ill immediately after sipping a drink, this time packaged.
