A circular tour of Etna

If you are in good shape, you can choose this circular route which, climbing approximately 980 metres, allows you to reach the Crater Piano del Lago starting from Rifugio Sapienza. The start is set from the refuge car park and the climb reaches the beautiful and evocative black and desert landscapes on the slopes of the volcano.

In total, there and back, there are approximately 11 kilometers.

The Fortress of Cefalù

Cefalù is a coastal city located on the northern coast of Sicily, famous for its enchanting golden sandy beach, its picturesque port and the medieval historic centre, dominated by the majestic Cefalù Cathedral, one of the main attractions of the city. But the Rocca is also notable: to reach it you can take a circular walk starting from the Cefalù city bus stop it goes up to the castleallowing you to enjoy a truly unique sea view.

The walk is for everyone: I am just under 4 kilometersfor 380 meters of altitude difference.

Lace Carbonara

In the Madonie Park there is the possibility of venturing on different routes. One of the best – of intermediate level – is the one that goes from Piano Battaglia to Pizzo Carbonara. You pass through the meadows at the beginning of the excursion to arrive at the rocky summit, then descend along the path (rocky again) that leads to the base of Pizzo Scalonazzo.

The walk takes just over three hours there and back: they are 8 and a half kilometers with 400 meters of altitude difference.

The Serracozzo Cave in the Etna Park

Let’s return to the Etna Park, where it is possible to venture into aanother circular walk. This time there are 6 kilometres, for 440 meters of altitude difference (for an excursion of approximately 3 hours). We start from Citelli refugeyou pass by the Grotta di Serracozzo and the Serra delle Concazze, passing through the Valle del Bove.

Trekking in the Zingaro Reserve

Sea view excursions in Sicily are not only abundant, but are also extraordinary. Like for example the 10 kilometer circular walk that can be done in the Zingaro Reserve, near San Vito Lo Capo. Is called Orchid Trail and is for intermediate level hikers and hikers. The difference in altitude is in fact about 500 meters and the walk lasts more or less three and a half hours.

The Path of the Saracens

Again for those who love the sea, the advice is to organize a walk on the Sentiero dei Saraceni, which is located near Castelmola and is 4 kilometers long. The route takes just over an hour and a half, but you can also choose the longest and most tiring version which starts from Taormina, called the Via Crucis of Taormina, a circular tour of 11 and a half kilometers with a difference in altitude of 730 metres.
