“Let’s build together a Europe of peace, work and social justice”. It is the slogan chosen by CGIL, CISL, UIL to celebrate May 1st again this year. Friuli Venezia Giulia, a border land, will host the event, dedicated to Europe, which will take place, starting from 10 am, in Piazza della Repubblica in Monfalcone, in the province of Gorizia.

After the speeches of the delegates of the three Organizations, the General Secretaries, Maurizio Landini, Luigi Sbarra and PierPaolo Bombardieri, will conclude the rallies, speaking from the stage from 12 to 1 pm.

More than one hundred CISL delegates from Treviso were present

The CISL Belluno Treviso will participate in the demonstration with more than one hundred militants including delegates, trade unionists, pensioners, male and female workers. There will be two buses organized by the trade union, to which will be added the many participants who will reach Monfalcone by their own means.

“Social justice, peace and work are the foundations that we must build in the Europe of tomorrow, a Union that is capable of overcoming particularisms and rigorisms and that places the highest value for its citizens at the center, that is, the dignity of every worker and every worker”, declares Massimiliano Paglini, general secretary of the CISL Belluno Treviso.

“Dignity and respect – continues Paglini – which are built with a European welfare system. Being together is necessary to maximize the added value and economic strength of 27 countries which, if united, can represent a world economic power, but, if divided, risk being swallowed up by new global forces. This is why we celebrate May Day there, where 40 years ago there was the Iron Curtain, meaning that after the fall of the Wall we have not yet managed to build a true Europe of peoples and peoples.

A rose of solidarity from Filcams-Cgil

“Il pane e le rose” returns to Treviso again this year. Tomorrow, Wednesday 1 May, Labor Day, Filcams Cgil Treviso, together with the girls and boys of the Middle Students Network, will distribute a rose of solidarity to the workers in the retail trade and large-scale organized distribution also employed on their holiday .

There are still many, too many, businesses that decide to remain open even on holidays, preventing their employees from reconciling their life and work times with dignity. A situation which, if already difficult during the year, becomes intolerable on the symbolic day of work.

The “Bread and Roses” initiative aims not only to call economic and institutional actors to order and in particular to raise consumer awareness, but also to express solidarity and closeness towards those who, despite not being employed in carrying out a service essential for the community, does not have the opportunity to enjoy this holiday and demonstrate together with the trade union organizations that this year will celebrate May Day in Monfalcone.

“Keeping shops open on holidays represents a brutal deprivation for workers – says Alberto Irone, general secretary of FILCAMS CGIL Treviso -. We will continue to promote and support, also through this solidarity and reclamation initiative, the closures of small and large shops on national holidays for a sustainable trade model, capable of restoring the right value not only of wages but also of life and work”.

The pain of yet another death at work, which occurred in Friuli, in Fiume Veneto

A May Day eve marked by yet another fatal accident at work. A 68-year-old skilled worker, resident in Fontanelle and employed by a construction company since May 2020, lost his life in Fiume Veneto.

“The tragedies that occur every day on our construction sites and in the workplace are unacceptable – comments Massimiliano Paglini, general secretary of the CISL Belluno Treviso -: work is and must continue to be an instrument of life, not of death. We will also reiterate this strongly in the Primo Maggio square in Monfalcone. We need to ask ourselves serious questions about the reasons why a worker should find himself operating a crane at almost 69 years of age: even if in excellent health, the reflexes are not those of a young person and the issue of the aging of the workforce in Italy and the North East must be addressed as soon as possible with planning and vision. We have been asking for some time that the social security table be reopened precisely for a structural reform that better protects strenuous jobs and above all avoids having to remain at work until an age like that of the worker who died in Fiume Veneto”.
