Monza, Liceo Zucchi: Cyrano and Iphigenia protagonists of the Koralion laboratory

Monza. It didn’t even stop them bad weather which continues to rage in our territory. Because basically the culture, in its many forms, is the basis on which humanity has developed and still manages to overcome even the most difficult obstacles. Then if they are young people, like the students of “Koralion”the theater laboratory of “Bartolomeo Zucchi” classical and musical high schoolthis concept becomes even more evident.

And so, despite the incessant rains, “Iphigenia in Aulis”the show proposed by the boys and girls of the three-year period, an adaptation of the ancient Greek tragedy written by Euripideswas staged before May 14th in Turin at Classical Theater Student Festival, a national review organized by the Vittorio Alfieri classical high school of Turin and sponsored by the Royal Museums of the city and by the INDA (National Institute of Ancient Drama) of Syracuse. Then on May 16th at Manzoni Theatre of Monza.

“Iphigenia in Aulis” was preceded by a few days “Cyrano Dance” that on May 8th at Platform 7 Theatre of Monza, always directed by Silvano Ilardofeatured the two-year students of the “Koralion” laboratory, a name deriving from the color of the walls of the Zucchi high school gym where the show rehearsals take place.

THE BUDGET

“On May 14th in Turin “Ifigenia in Aulide”, given the rain, was staged at the Salone degli Svizzeri del Royal Palace and not at the Roman Theater – says the professor Emanuela Gravinarepresentative of the “Koralion” project, born 15 years ago with the aim of involving students in the representation of classic works of ancient theatrebut adapted into a modern language with choreography and music that have a dominant factor in dance.

“Then, on May 16th at the Manzoni in Monza, we managed to do our show after 24 hours of trouble due to theflooding of the Lambro – he continues – there was a real risk of not being able to perform, but then, despite the adverse weather conditions they reduced public turnoutwhere the mayor was also present, Paolo Pilottothe spectacular nature of the choreographythe live singing and the emotional ending.”

THE DRAMA OF WAR

“Iphigenia in Aulis” proposed by the Koralion workshop, focused on the drama of the protagonist, young daughter of Agamemnon one step away from being sacrificed on the senseless altar of raison d’état by the will of the goddess Artemiswas the fruit of the commitment of the students of the Zucchi High School not only in acting.

“The opening and closing parts were designed by two studentswho integrated the script by giving a personal interpretation of Artemis’ role in the story, with a message from condemnation of the war very current” explains Gravina.

BEYOND STEREOTYPES

“Cyrano Dance” also hit the mark, which at the Binario 7 theater in Monza proposed a free adaptation ofwork written by Rostand in which the protagonist is a sensitive but ugly-looking poet, in love with Rossanawho will appreciate, for a long time unconsciously, only the soul capable of expressing passionate words to lend to the beautiful Christianwith whom the woman is in love.

Zucchi Koralion High School

On stage the boys and girls of the two-year Zucchi high school were not alone in giving life to lively choreography to play this drama on diversity as a valueon the meaning of inadequacy and on the power and limits of wordfor which the contact person was the teacher Daniela Canducciassisted by colleagues Emanuela Gravina, Paola Sbuelz And Antonia Palmisano.

THE PROJECTS

“While in Iphigenia he acted with us, in the role of little Orestesa seventh grade boy from Confalonieri school of Monza, in Cyrano there was a girl of the same age – explains Gravina – we have a very interesting collaboration underway with this school relating to their respective theater workshopsin terms of orientation, through the figure of the prof. William Pioltellitheir theatrical representative, who also accompanied us to the Turin Festival”.

And for the foreseeable future the Koralion laboratory will not change its approach, including participation in national theater reviews such as the INDA youth festival in Sicily. “The Zucchi High School will take into account the ever-growing interest of young people in these performing activities – concludes Professor Gravina – the launch of the next school year also goes in this direction.dance direction“.
