Ragusa, the traditional anarchist May Day rally in Piazza San Giovanni

The first of May, organized as every year by the anarchist group of Ragusa in the capital, reiterates a “No to all wars” that the anarchists, together with the No Muos Movement, have been carrying out with insistence for years.

The slogans of the rally, which will take place starting from 10.30 am in Piazza San Giovanni, range from “Enough with the genocide of the Palestinian people” to a heartfelt “Alongside the Russian, Ukrainian and Israeli deserters” who they refuse to succumb to militarist madness.

Closely linked to the theme of war, the No to patriarchy, the No to fascism and racism, and the No to Sicily as an energy colony of the North will be reiterated, therefore the No to differentiated autonomy. And instead a Yes to the defense of the environment from capitalist aggression, Yes to free healthcare and economic equality, against the huge military expenses and welfare cuts that the war economy imposes on the weakest social classes.

Alternating at the microphone will be Pippo Gurrieri (in the photo), Natale Musarra, Antonio Rampolla, the newly formed Assembly Against Wars which will present itself with the reading of the founding document. The word will then pass to Antonio Mazzeo who will address the issue of the involvement of Italy (and Sicily with “its” military bases) in the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine, Palestine and in other scenarios in North, Central and South Africa. East; the continuous strengthening of military installations in Sigonella, the militarization of education in our country, the cynicism of yesterday’s and today’s governments in promoting the centrality of war to the detriment of public health, education, essential services, etc.

The first of May in Ragusa is dedicated to Ilaria Salis, detained in Hungary because she was anti-fascist, and to Luigi Spera, an anti-militarist from Palermo arrested on charges of having taken part in a demonstration against the Leonardo SpA military industry plant in the Sicilian capital.
