PAVIA. They ask that a hydrogeological investigation be carried out in the area around the collapsed building in Via De Motis. They are the residents of this area who have been living a suspended existence since 24 February 2021: both the families displaced from the building and those who live around it.

In the city council

The citizens have entrusted their concerns and requests to the opposition municipal councilor Angela Gregorini (Action) who, on the occasion of the last Council meeting, presented a request in this sense. That is, you asked the mayor Fabrizio Fracassi if the Municipality has ever carried out a hydrogeological survey and the mayor replied no.

«Since – added Gregorini – despite an official technical consultancy, the residents have not yet understood what was the cause of the failure of the foundations, and since they fear that the same problem could also concern the neighboring homes in which they continue to live, the citizens ask that these hydrogeological checks be carried out to exclude the possibility that other houses could follow the fate of the building in via De Motis”. In short, they ask to know precisely how things are and to avoid further failures.

Killing order

Several times, in the City Council, the councilor of the 5 Star Movement, Vincenzo Nicolaio, asked why the mayor does not proceed with a demolition order for the building which has tilted on one side. It is true that the property is privately owned, but when there is a danger to the safety of citizens, the mayor can “replace” the private individual by ordering that the building be demolished. Despite Nicolaio’s requests and requests, however, to date no provision has been adopted in that sense.

On February 24, 2021, the foundations of building C in via De Motis collapsed and the building tilted. More than three years later, nothing has moved: the building is still in the balance, like the fate of the nine resident families and their neighbors, at the center of a nightmare from which they have not woken up, in the indifference of the administration, which classified the event as an unpleasant affair between private individuals.

The barriers

The inconvenience does not only concern those displaced from the unsafe building. In Via Trecourt, for example, a barrier was installed to protect the houses from a possible collapse, with the street closed to the passage of cars. And the barrier, three years later, is still there with all the problems associated with it. —
