Olbia. The “WINDSURFER OLBIA SPRING CUP” ended on Sunday 28 April. The satisfaction of the Olbiense association for the perfect success of the event is accompanied by the joy of sporting success for its athletes’ conquest of the highest steps of the podium.
The athletes, coming from different nations thanks to the “open” formula, competed in variable and sometimes very harsh weather conditions. Saturday was particularly challenging when the reinforcement of the infamous sirocco, with gusts of up to 30 knots, put the technical skills and physical endurance of the participants to the test. Eight races in total, three carried out on Friday and Saturday and two on the last day of the regatta.
In the Lightweight category: the top step of the podium was won by Alessandro Torzoni of the Circolo Nautico Olbia, ahead of Luca Frascari of the East Bay Yachting Club of Anzio and Pietro Massini of the Società Educazione Fisica Stamura. In the Heavy category, Davide Gessa of the Circolo Nautico Olbia won first place, followed by Edoardo Thermes of the Associazione Vela Sabazia and, in third place, David Pezzini of the Nimbus Surfing Club. In the Women’s category he won 1st place on the podium was Bruna Ferracane, from Club Albaria, reigning world champion, followed by Silvia Ghigliazza from Club Velico Cogoleto.
During the festive awards ceremony, President Mario Peralda wanted to thank the Municipality of Olbia and the Sports Councilor Dr. Elena Casu, the Italian Sailing Federation through the President of the Third Zone, Avv. Corrado Fara, and the President of the Italian Windsurfer Class Luca Frascari who, on the occasion, addressed sincere words of praise for the perfect organization of the event, opening up to the possible arrival in our city of the European or even world championships of this Class. The latter events are capable of involving 250/300 athletes from all the nations of the world with imaginable consequences in economic and image terms on the territory.
