“On the 42nd anniversary of the killing by the vile mafia of Pio La Torre and Rosario Di Salvo, the institutions and civil society unite in expressing feelings of great gratitude to their memory. The firmness and self-sacrifice in combating crime organized make them emblematic figures of the values of justice and legality which are the foundation of civil coexistence based on the rule of law”. This is the message the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, sent to the President of the “Pio La Torre” Center for Studies and Cultural Initiatives, Loredana Introini and to the President Emeritus, Vito Lo Monaco.
“The fight against mafias requires above all an acute awareness of their pervasiveness, in particular on the part of the young generations – states Mattarella – in order to consolidate those principles at the basis of a society built on respect for the dignity of all citizens and free from any form of intimidation. In this spirit, I express appreciation for the Anti-Mafia Educational Project which aims to promote among students the values that Pio La Torre and Rosario Di Salvo have witnessed with tenacity and sacrifice”.
