The cultural association “Liber…i”, creator and organizer of the well-known literary festival Salìber Fest, a fixed summer event in Salemi for all readers of the island, already recognized as being of cultural interest by the regional Department of Tourism and sponsored by the Italian Ministry of Culture “lands” in Palermo, thus inaugurating a new course which will also see the capital as the protagonist of the socio-cultural and literary activities promoted by the association. It starts on Sunday 5 May with the literary walk “Borgo Vecchio. Between words already written and stories to be written” included among the activities of the May of Books. The appointment for those who wish to participate is at 10.30 am in Piazza Don Luigi Sturzo. We will start from there for a journey through the streets of the heart of Palermo, seeking its roots in the words of those who have made it literature and listening to the living voices of those who have immersed themselves in the neighborhood and worked with the community, to try to write new stories together. Participants will thus be able to get to know the tragic, at times grotesque and so real characters of the novel “Carne mia” by Roberto Alajmo, the Montana family, the courage of the widow Mela, Mr. Pino, butcher dispensing advice and more, the relationship between the two brothers Enzo and Franco. And again, they will immerse themselves in the cruel reality narrated by Giosuè Calaciura in “Borgo Vecchio”, we will read about the prostitute Carmela, the friendship between Mimmo and Cristofaro, the arrival in the village of the horse Nanà, reading the author’s prose you will feel the smell of bread spreading through the streets of the village, readers will also follow the procession of the Patroness. We will not limit ourselves to literature, while walking through those streets, it will be necessary to refer to the story of a little girl, Giuseppina, born right there in 1951, in one of those houses from which it is possible, looking out onto the balcony, to admire that portion of the sea, to see ships arrive and depart. We will follow the dream of that little girl who loved to sing, who at 13 years old performed publicly for the first time and soon became Giuni Russo. And again in one of those houses, in 1841 the writer, ethnologist and doctor Giuseppe Pitrè was born. We will also be able to talk about him and his fundamental contribution in the study of folklore and popular traditions, just as we will talk about Richetto, killed a day in the Borgo by a policeman while he stole a stereo and to whom the Palermo duo of Ciprì and Maresco dedicated the short film “Loro di Palermo”, certainly the least humorous of their works.
