Reggio. May 1st: the procession and then the concert by Lo Stato Sociale

“Let’s build together a Europe of peace, work and social justice”. It is the slogan chosen by CGIL, CISL, UIL to celebrate May Day, Workers’ Day.
This year, Friuli Venezia Giulia, a border land, will host the national event dedicated to Europe which will take place in Monfalcone. After the speeches of the delegates of the three Organizations, the general secretaries, Maurizio Landini, Luigi Sbarra and PierPaolo Bombardieri, will conclude the rallies. As per tradition, the Concertone will take place in Rome in the afternoon which, for the first time, will not be able to take place in Piazza San Giovanni (due to the work scheduled for the Jubilee) and will move to the Circus Maximus.

In Reggio Emilia the celebrations will take place starting with the traditional city procession which at 3.00 pm will start from Via Emilia, at the corner of Viale Montegrappa, to arrive in Piazza Martiri del 7 Luglio where the stage will be set up to host the rallies of the three Provincial general secretaries of CGIL CISL UIL with the interventions of Cristian Sesena, General Secretary of CGIL Reggio Emilia, Roberto Rinaldi coordinator of UIL Modena and Reggio while the closing will be entrusted to Rosamaria Papaleo, General Secretary of CISL Emilia Centrale.

On stage from 5pm there will be space for music with the concert by LO STATO SOCIALE, a Bolognese collective born in 2009 with several successful records and hits to their credit.

“This year we are looking at Europe on the eve of an important electoral round like the one that awaits us on 8 and 9 June. It will be important that a model of the European Union is affirmed at the polls that looks to the defense and development of a complex and vast welfare system that places the dignity of work at the centre” declares Cristian Sesena, General Secretary of the CGIL of Reggio Emilia.

“No one has an international vision of the trade union movement anymore and, for this reason, we know well – explains Rosamaria Papaleo, General Secretary of CISL Emilia Centrale – that Europe means sharing a common destiny in the economy, in defence, in supporting the homogeneous growth of rights and opportunities, which are realized with a fiscal union and a great continental pact for work. No other generation since the Second World War has ever had this opportunity and this responsibility.”

“We ask politicians to give citizens back the European dream, based on the centrality of the person, social cohesion and peace. Quality work must be at the center of the development of the entire continent, therefore we immediately declare ourselves available to work on a European workers’ statute” finally declares Roberto Rinaldi, UIL Coordinator of Reggio Emilia.
