G7 in Turin, clashes between protesters and police

AGI – The police carried out a lightening charge in via Verdi to remove the demonstrators who oppose the G7 and who are trying to approach the red zone in Piazza Carlina, in Turin, where one of the hotels hosting the summit delegation is located . The demonstrators, shouting “Free Palestine” and “We don’t want ministers” they tried to force the cordon formed by officers in riot gear near a bar, also throwing iron tables towards the officers, who charged to push them away.

A group of pro-Palestine activists and members of social centers had already tried to force the police cordon near Palazzo Nuovo, in Turin, to reach the red zone in Piazza Carlina, where there is one of the hotels hosting the G7 delegation . The police repelled the demonstrators with shields and truncheons. Some water cannons were also activated to disperse the mass of people who arrived in the city center.

Solidarity with the police forces who are currently suffering violent attacks from a group of demonstrators in Turin. I appeal to everyone: every contribution to the discussion is precious as long as it is made in a constructive and peaceful way. The G7 is preparing to adopt a historic decision on stopping the use of coal. It is the demonstration of the concrete commitment of our countries in combating climate change and protecting the environment”. This was declared by Minister Gilberto Pichetto Fratin.
