Frosinone Traffic Police officers have arrested a man and a woman on charges of having defrauded an elderly woman in the province of Florence into having cash and jewelery worth a few thousand euros delivered. The victim had received two phone calls: one from a man who introduced himself as a police marshal, the other from a person who claimed to be a lawyer. Both asked her to pay 6,700 euros in cash or jewels to avoid arrest for her son, claiming that she had caused a car accident with injuries, one of whom had to undergo surgery.
The lady handed over all the gold she had in the house. The couple accused of the scam was blocked on the motorway, in the section that crosses the province of Frosinone. She was traveling in a car that was traveling at high speed and was therefore checked by the officers. The man and woman on board had numerous precedents for defrauding the elderly and so the traffic police searched the car, finding gold and cash in the front passenger seat, inside an envelope. From the analysis of the couple’s movements, we traced back to the province of Florence and to the defrauded woman. She recognized the couple, triggering the arrests. He is now in the prison in Frosinone, she in the Rebibbia prison.
