“Once upon a time there was a river. Past, present and future of a vital resource”

“Once upon a time there was a river. Past, present and future of a vital resource” is the title of the conference scheduled for WedgeFriday 3 May from 3pm to 7pm at the Casa del Fiume, home of the River Park in piazzale Walter Cavallera 19. The initiative, promoted by the Coordination of the environmentalist associations, Legambiente, Lipu, Pro Natura Cuneo, Cuneo Birding and Italia Nostra, will also see among the protagonists the Province of Cuneo.

“Healthy rivers are the lifeblood of our planet. Rivers and their catchment areas – and the rich variety of life they support – they provide people with drinking water, food, medicine, building materials, silt for land restoration and more. They mitigate floods and droughts, support forests, recharge groundwater reserves, support fisheries and provide transportation.” (International Day of Action for Rivers). The invitation is therefore to do more to restore freshwater ecosystems and the natural functions of rivers. The works will be introduced by Domenico Sanino, president of Pro Natura Cuneo.

They will speak: Stefano FenoglioDbios/Alpstream University of Turin on the topic “Evolution of the relationship between Man and River”; Andrea Mandarinoresearcher at the University of Genoa (Distav) and advisor to Cirf (Italian Center for River Redevelopment) on “Rivers and streams: geomorphological aspects and management considerations”; Massimiliano Gallidirector of the Gesso Stura River Park on “The Park with the city inside: a shared project for the protection of water and the environment”; Stefano Boveroindependent researcher in herpetology and ichthyology “Zirichiltaggi” Sardinia Wildlife Conservation Ngo, Sassari on “Alpine ichthyofauna at the dawn of the third millennium”; Marino Gandolfo, Water Office of the Province of Cuneo on “Protection of underground aquifers and recharge of aquifers”. Gandolfo will also present the Alcotra project of the “Se.Te” Province. Finally, Maurizio Battegazzore, Arpa Piemonte Provincial Department Cuneo will speak on the topic “The elements of biological quality in the monitoring of Piedmontese watercourses”.
