Aprilia experiments with a “mixed” tail in the Jerez tests

The MotoGP stopped in Jerez de la Frontera for the usual day of testing and we were already able to see several new features on the track. Among these, Aprilia could not be missing, which is a pioneer in innovation, especially in the aerodynamic field. Once again, the garage shutters were raised to let us discover what measures have been brought to the official RS-GPs, including Lorenzo Savadori’s.

In the early afternoon, we could see a new tail mounted on Aleix Espargaro’s Aprilia. Not too different from that of the weekend, it is inspired by 2023, but with some “touches” of 2024. The lower part is new for this season, while the upper part is a reference to 2023: we can therefore speak of mixed codon.

The aerodynamic research is becoming more and more sophisticated and is clearly Formula 1 in nature: the rear tail, in fact, helps to create a blowing which allows to increase the flows. It is nothing new that Aprilia focuses a lot on these aspects, having already seen it bring decidedly important aerodynamic solutions in the past, such as spoilers, diffusers and even rakes that recall the highest four-wheel category.

The Noale company is continuing to work hard not only to improve starts, as requested by the two drivers, but also to increase performance. To do this, here are the solutions in the tests, together with a completely black fairing. Lorenzo Savadori is also on track, carrying on the work together with the starting drivers.

Different work, however, for Maverick Vinales, who focused on solving the problems that affected him throughout the weekend of the Spanish Grand Prix and prevented him from confirming Austin’s form: “Today we verified the problems, and just for having identified them, I give the test a pass. This gives you peace of mind,” explained the Roses rider.

Vinales worked on the setup of his RS-GP and was seen moving from one bike to another inside the garage. Ergonomics work for the Spaniard, who focused on less aerodynamic aspects than Aleix Espargaro and Lorenzo Savadori.
