The institutional meeting between the Prefect of Ravenna Castrese De Rosa and the Consul General of the United States of America Daniela Ballard, who has taken up service at the Consulate General of Lungarno Amerigo since August 2023, took place this morning at the Government Palace Vespucci in Florence with expertise also in the Emilia Romagna region.
Also present were Dr. Emma Tewksbury Volpe, a diplomatic official who works at the Italy desk at the Department of State in Washington and Dr. Michele Comelli, a specialist in political economy from the aforementioned Consulate.
“It was a very cordial visit – declared the Prefect – characterized by maximum availability between the United States and the Ravenna institutions, the meeting was also an opportunity to highlight the traditional collaboration between the two countries on issues that closely concern our provincial territory with an exchange of ideas on the historic friendship between Italy and the United States United”.
The discussion continued on the main priorities with particular reference to the work of the PNRR which will involve all the structures of both the Local Authorities and the Port Authority and then the migrant emergency which sees on the front line beyond the Prefecture, the Municipalities and the entire system of local hospitality. There was also no lack of closeness expressed by the Consul General to the populations of Romagna for the imminent anniversary of the floods of last May which particularly affected Ravenna and its Province.
At the end of the pleasant visit, Prefect De Rosa thanked the Consul, giving her a plate depicting the mosaics of Ravenna and a book on the coats of arms of the Government Palace, while the Consul Daniela Ballard gave the book “The United States Capitol” on architecture of the US Capitol.
Upon leaving the Prefecture, the Consul reiterated his affection for Ravenna, confirming his utmost willingness to collaborate to further improve relations and initiatives between the two countries.
