Sunday 28 April Ravenna FC won away for 2 goals to 0 against Borgo San Donnino, recovering 2 points from Carpi who drew 1-1 with Imolese. This is the sixth consecutive victory for the boys coached by Mister Gadda, who are still keeping the fight for promotion alive with 90 minutes left in the championship.

What unlocked the result in today’s match was Umberto Nappello on a penalty in the 43rd minute. In the second half at 48th Antonio Varriale he doubled the lead for the Giallorossi with a right-footed shot from the edge of the six-yard box which found its way into the top corner.

Ravenna FC will host Imolese in the last round of the championship while their rivals Carpi will face Certaldo. The team from Ravenna is forced to win in order to reach the top, hoping that Carpi does not do the same.

The match started with Nappello’s goal from a penalty and was sealed by a goal, as beautiful as it was expected, from Varriale, the classic goal worth the price of the ticket, and the -2 from Carpi.

The match

The Giallorossi take the field at the Ballotta in Fidenza with some changes in formation, the “under” arms Spezzano and Gobbo confirmed with Boccardi on the right out and Varriale accompanying Tirelli in attack.

The score of the match is clear from the first minutes with San Donnino leaving the initiative to the Giallorossi and looking for space on the restart. Ravenna tries immediately with a nice run by Marino, followed by a shot from the edge of the box by Nappello, both without luck. The home team responded with Feretti coordinating Vecchi’s cross but shooting through the roof.

Ravenna’s pressure increases and following a good initiative by Varriale, Marino dangerously reaches the conclusion once again, rebounded by the defence. Ravenna’s efforts seem to be rewarded in the 37th minute when Nappello draws a cross that lands perfectly on the head of Esposito who, however, hits the post, saving Piga who is stopped on the goal line. It’s a matter of a few minutes because in the 42nd minute Tirelli controls a ball in the small area and is knocked down before being able to kick for a brilliant penalty. On the spot, a very cold Nappello displaces Piga and deservedly gives Ravenna the lead. Not even having time to beat Ravenna steals the ball with Varriale and comes close to doubling the score with a poisonous diagonal.

Varriale himself, one of the most proactive in the first half at the start of the second half, gave his team a second with a shot to see and see again which went into the top corner after a fantastic arc. With the game on ice from the start of the second half, Ravenna tries to round things off further with tight phrases which, however, barely reach the mark. In the 58th minute Rrapaj warms the goalkeeper’s hands with a powerful right-footed shot that deserves better luck.

San Donnino, however, is not tamed and tries to reopen it with a good initiative from Vecchi who calls Cordaro to a non-trivial double intervention. The hosts could reopen it in the 40th minute due to a defensive misunderstanding, but Caniparoli’s diagonal shot misses the target. The news coming from Imola where the home team defeated league leaders Carpi adds spice to the end of the championship. With one match to play, the Giallorossi’s victory halved the deficit and postponed the verdicts on the pitch.

With 90 minutes left and with Forlì’s appeal pending, the fate of this promotion is still up for grabs.
