AVIO. After years (about thirty) of doubts and hesitations, of more or less futuristic hypotheses rejected due to the strong environmental impact and the consumption of agricultural land, finally the solution for a new connection between the Destra Adige provincial road and the Brenner state road 12 has been identified in the Municipality of Avio.

The two banks of the Adige will be connected by a bridge which, starting just south of the “Ruota libera” bicigrill, it will cross the river and then the railway line to join the state road between the Vo’ Sinistro intersection and the fuel station. A project for which the Province has already budgeted 20 million.

And the president of the Province himself Maurizio Fugatti will be in the town hall on Tuesday evening at 8pm with some officials of the Road and Railway Works Service to illustrate, before the start of the municipal council meeting, the Right/Left Adige connection.

«The solution identified among the various hypotheses examined was agreed with the municipal administration – states the president Maurizio Fugatti – It is not only the cheapest solution among those evaluated and but also the least impactful both in terms of land use agricultural and from a panoramic-environmental point of view”.

“Furthermore – specifies the mayor of Avio Ivano Fracchetti – the bridge between Vo’ Destro and Vo’ Sinistro has a double meaning: that of eliminating the railway underpass, a real bottleneck, and of guaranteeing a “relief valve” and a valid alternative in situations of slowed or blocked traffic in highway with vehicles spilling over with strong negative repercussions on the Sp 90 Destra Adige.

In this case we are not just talking about haywire traffic and pollution, but also about safety given that heavy vehicles also have to cross our urban centres. With the new bridge this will no longer be the case because the traffic will be moved to the state road”. The planned Right/Left Adige connection is grafted onto the current road system. In fact, from the roundabout at the southern entrance of Sabbionara you proceed eastwards passing over the Biffis canal bridge to then reach and pass the current overpass of the Brenner motorway at the end of which the connection point with the future road system has been identified.

The approach route to the Adige will follow a first flat path behind the bicigrill from where the long bridge will start (over the river and the railway) to reach the Brenner state road. Over the last thirty years (starting from the 1990s) various hypotheses and solutions had been put forward for the connection between the two banks of the Adige in the territory of the Municipality of Avio. Starting from the idea of ​​the then mayor Lino Pilati of a cable-stayed bridge at the height of the industrial area to “bridge” the motorway and the river.

But a firm no came from the farmers (due to too much countryside being sacrificed) and by the president of FAI Giulia Maria Crespi Mazzoni against a work that would have had a very strong environmental impact, even “obscuring” the view of the castle above Sabbionara.

The same fate (failure for the same reasons) also for subsequent hypotheses still south of Avio. And why not, it was reasoned, a connection north of Sabbionara near the motorway toll booth? Nothing to be done given Ala’s opposition due to fears of an excessive load of crossing traffic.
