Adrien Tameze returned to play in midfield against Inter: the Cameroonian did not shine and was then a negative protagonist
Disappointing. This is how Adrien Tameze’s performance against Inter can easily be summed up. The former Verona player returned to midfield after months of adapting arm in arm to the three-man defence, but was unable to fully convince. After an overall tidy first half, number 61 became the negative protagonist and wrote the final word on the match. In fact, it was his intervention on Mkhitaryan who flew towards Milinkovic-Savic’s goal: for the referee it would have been a yellow, but a questionable VAR review transformed the warning into an expulsion. So Tameze left him with 10 men and Toro was unable to bring home points from San Siro. Now Juric will have to do without it against Bologna, in a match that could represent the last resort to qualify for the European cups.
Tameze, better arm in arm
Although midfield is Adrien Tameze’s natural role, it is also true that he has performed significantly better as a sidekick. From the first derby to the second leg, passing through other complicated matches on paper, he adapted perfectly to a completely new role. Against Inter we saw the difference between him and Ilic, who despite having different characteristics played a decidedly more convincing match. Mkhitaryan caught him unprepared and now Tameze will be forced to miss the match against Bologna. Then he will have to understand if Juric wants to continue on the 4-2-3-1 path: in that case the Cameroonian could be reconfirmed in midfield, otherwise he could find significantly less space. The feeling is that the coach shaped the team by adapting to the characteristics of the opponent. It is no coincidence, in fact, that Juric proposed the same solution in the first leg match.
