Fano, 29 April 2024 – They do to roll in water one ancient columnlow and wide, weighing 300 kg (a bollard in maritime jargon): touched a boat of a member of the Naval League. The moorings of other boats were also cut. It happened on the night between Saturday and Sunday along the Albani canal, in the restored area of the Darsena Borghese, on the south side of the ‘Romantic Walk’.
“If the bollard had ended up on the boat – he points out Rolando Bocchini of the Naval League – would have sunk it.” In the fall, the column hit the ladder leading down into the water and broke in two. “One half – explains Bocchini – remained on the staircase, the other half ended up in the water and now it is dangerous for mooring”. Both the local police and the port authority were notified of the incident.
To locate those responsible now rely on images recorded by cameras of video surveillance “paid – recalls Bocchini – by the citizen-members of the Naval League”. Those images, which all end up in the operations center of the local police, can only be viewed if a complaint is filed with the police, which the president of the Naval League will do this morning. Already on a previous occasion vandalism the images from the video surveillance system had helped the police to identify and report the perpetrators. It is likely that it was an act of vandalism carried out by a group of people and not aimed at damaging the boat below. Only chance meant that the heavy column did not hit the hull causing it to sink.
