Vitorchiano beats Viterbo for income, in Onano the poorest

The bigger the richer. With some exceptions. In fact, in Tuscia Vitorchiano is the municipality with the most substantial incomes, while Viterbo is only second. The poorest? They are instead found in Onano. Everywhere, however, in the municipalities of the province, incomes in 2022 grew compared to those of the previous year. But the numbers must be framed.

In fact, it is inflation that runs the fastest and eats up the increases in the paycheck. The new data released by the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), referring to the tax year, indicate a decisive leap in the wealth of Italians: the average income stood at 21,752 euros, i.e. 1,007 euros more than the 20,745 euro in 2021, thus marking the strongest increase for at least 15 years now. If incomes showed an increase on an annual basis of 4.85%, their progression was however totally eroded by inflation which in 2022 stood at 8.1%.

Intwig, the company that analyzes the MEF data, emphasizes that “the data show a significant increase in incomes, confirming the strong post-Covid recovery. This increase, however, is nullified by the inflationary dynamic, which has led to an overall loss of purchasing power for taxpayers and families. The country’s historical fractures remain evident, both North-South and centre-periphery”.

Here then is the analysis of the municipalities of Tuscia. In Viterbo the highest income with 21,400 euros per capita declared in 2022, i.e. +880 compared to 2021 (+4.3%) for 47,272 taxpayers. In 2021, declared wealth had grown by 3.7% while in 2020 it had fallen by 0.7% compared to 2019. But, as mentioned, the capital is not the richest in the province: Vitorchiano is in first position. The average income in the neighboring municipality is 21,686 euros, or more 1,136 8 growth of 5.5%) compared to the previous year for the 3,452 taxpayers.

Continuing with the most populous municipalities, Tarquinia collects an average income per taxpayer (11,899 in total) of 19,854, or +948 compared to 2021, with a percentage increase of 5% (it was 4.7% in 2021 while in 2020 wealth was fell by 1.2%).

In Civita Castellana the average declared per citizen is 19,752 euros (+6% compared to 2021, or an increase of 1,118 euros for the 10,315 taxpayers).

In fourth position for size is Vetralla where, however, tax returns are slimmer: 18,645 euros declared on average in 2022, i.e. 954 euros more than in 2021 (+ 5.4% for the 9,435 taxpayers). In Montefiascone, the per capita income in 2022 amounted to 19,399 euros, with a positive variation compared to the previous year of 1,290 euros, or +7.1% (there are 9,497 taxpayers). After 2019 in which a contraction of 1.5% was recorded, the increase was constant: in 202 +0.5% and in 2021 +6.1%.

And the little ones? Tessennano, with its 236 taxpayers, reaches 15,023 per capita incomes (still increasing by 4.6% compared to 2021). Proceno, second to last in terms of population, in 2022 recorded average declarations of 15,621 euros, the average of those of the 422 active workers (+837 euros on 2021).

In reality, the poorest are not at the bottom of the population density ranking: these are Cellere and Onano, the only two centers in the Viterbo area that do not reach the threshold of 15 thousand euros. In Cellere the 2022 per capita income reached 14,891 (increased by 6.8% or 995 euros) for the 854 taxpayers. In Onano, however, the poorest with an average income of 14,408 euros for the 648 active workers (+503 on 2021).
