PISTOIA – Not only the inability to design and reuse – in a manner shared with the owners – the large unused containers (Sbertoli villas, Montesecco, various former convents); the absolute irrelevance of the Tomasi administration in the context of public services (Alia, Publiacqua and the Multiutility issue, Autolinee Toscane) is not enough; Even on the subject of mobility, the Pistoia council demonstrates its own inadequacy.
In fact, the Municipality of Pistoia does not yet have an urban sustainable mobility plan, even when in 2017 the former mayor Bertinelli had prepared one, even if it was not approved.
The inconveniences of the lack of a mobility plan can be appreciated every day, especially in the parking deficit in the historic center, a deficit exacerbated by the works in Piazza San Lorenzo which took away parking spaces. So we immediately propose a useful solution for those who reside and live in the city.
The administration must sit down with the Local Health Authority and find an agreement for the maxi car park in Viale Matteotti, of the former hospital, in the sense of making the two pedestrian paths that exit (could exit) active 24/7 in Piazza San Lorenzo and in Piazza Giovanni XXIII. The only cost could be the security and video surveillance service, but the benefits for the users of the center would be enormous.
Then there is the question of road safety, in general and in particular that of Via Montalese: it is time for Tomasi & Co. to take serious action, without deluding themselves into thinking that the solution is to further cement the territory by building a new variant to Montale through Chiesina Montalese.
Further waterproofing, be it roads or car parks, cannot be the solution, given that the public bodies in charge are unable to maintain the existing infrastructures, such as the eastern ring road of Pistoia which absorbed the trucks. The time is ripe to review the collective mobility of people and goods at municipal and regional level: in Pistoia traffic is the symptom of mobility that is out of control and without planning, and the municipal administration must be a stimulus and goad so that others too entities intervene by assuming their responsibilities.
