BUSTO ARSIZIO- UYBA Busto Arsizio wants to relaunch its ambitions in the Women’s A1, after the suffering of last season, by entrusting the bench to a coach with great international experience: Giovanni Caprara. «I am highly motivated and honored to arrive in Busto Arsizio in a sports hall that I love». The Bolognese coach’s first words as a red and white.
Born in 1962, with palmares as a “top coach”, Giovanni Caprara will arrive at the E-Work Arena in the next few days.
THE CARREER-
Born in Medicina, Bologna, on 7 November 1962, Giovanni Caprara rightfully enters the ranks of the most successful coaches in Italian volleyball.
He sat on a bench for the first time in Bergamo, in 1998 as Marco Bonitta’s assistant at the legendary Foppapedretti with whom, in two seasons, he won the scudetto, the European Cup twice and the Italian Super Cup twice.
Caprara returned to Bergamo as first coach and won the scudetto again in 2003-2004, bringing the Orobiche to the throne of the Cev Cup, the Italian Super Cup and, in 2005, the Champions League.
2005 is also the year that sees him at the helm of the Russian national team where he scores a hat-trick: bronze at the 2005 European Championships, gold at the 2006 World Championships and bronze at the 2007 European Championships.
In 2013 he led River Piacenza to the Scudetto for two consecutive championships, 2012-13 and 2013-14, also adding two victories in the Italian Cup and one in the Italian Super Cup.
Having left the confines of the country, Giovanni Caprara is also a protagonist abroad: leading the Turkish team Eczac?ba??, in 2015 he won the Champions League and the Club World Cup.
Before arriving in Busto Arsizio, Giovanni Caprara managed the Romanian side Târgovi?te which he led to their first historic national title in the 2020-21 season.
In his palmares, the new coach of the “Farfalle” also includes the promotion to Serie A1 achieved as coach of Spezzano as well as the Italian Cup and Super Cup won with Reggio Calabria
Giovanni Caprara also coached Asystel Novara (2010-2011, 2011-2012), Villa Cortese (2012-2013), Casalmaggiore (2016-2017, 2017-2018), San Casciano (2018-2019, 2019-2020)
From 2009 to 2011 he was Technical Commissioner of the Greek national team, in 2019 he led the Azerbaijan national team and at the end of the same year he moved to the Netherlands national team where he remained until March 2020.
He also participated in the 2008 Beijing Olympics when he was Russia’s coach, taking 5th place.
One last curiosity; in 2001, as coach of Virtus Reggio Calabria, Caprara won the scudetto which was then revoked by Fipav due to the irregular registration of a player.

«I came to Busto to give strength to the technical project: work hard, every day, in the gym. One of the objectives is to contribute to the constant individual growth of each player, to then benefit from it at team level. There is a path to complete, it will take patience, but I am certainly not backing down.”
Giovanni Caprara then explains what convinced him to choose UYBA:
«I received several proposals, but when Carmelo Borruto called me I had no doubts. I have known him for many years and I have always “spoken” the same volleyball with him. In agreement with the company we have set up an interesting team. In the next few days I will arrive in Busto for the first contact with the staff members and the players. I am sure that we will lay the foundations to experience a satisfying season together.”
