Violence against women, 57 active assistance structures in Veneto

VENICE – On the subject of preventing and combating violence against women, the Veneto Region has put in place 57 assistance structures, of which 26 Anti-Violence Centers and 31 Shelters, investing 1 million 120 thousand euros from the regional budget, in addition to the state resources of the Prime Ministerial Decree 22 of 2022 endowed with 2 million 960 thousand euros.

These and many other data emerge from the 2023 Annual Report of the Regional Council on the activity carried out in the field of prevention and combating violence against women, at the center today of the session of the Fifth Commission of the Regional Council (Health and Social Affairs), followed by a joint one with the Sixth Commission (Culture) with the hearings of the various entities involved, with the aim of defining a new overall strategy to combat the phenomenon of violence and gender disparities.

The Councilor for Health and Social Affairs was present at both appointments Manuela Lanzarin who, remembering the tragedy of Giulia Cecchettin, and the others that preceded and followed it, emphasized the good results obtained, as can be seen from the 2023 Report, and the strategic choice to strengthen and relaunch the various actions in 2024.

“It is no coincidence – he said – that we have increased the specific funds in our budget, bringing them to 1 million 550 thousand euros, we are implementing the opening of branches in universities, strengthening communication and awareness initiatives, and training initiatives for personnel called to look after these people. Every additional woman who turns to our network for help and protection can be a life saved.”

The 2023 Report of the Regional Council contains the results of a survey conducted in the emergency rooms, from which, for example, it emerged that 89.47% have an implementation protocol for the path for women who suffer violence; 100% provides diversified procedures and protected discharge methods in the case of a high risk assessment; 100% inform the woman of the presence of Anti-Violence Centers in the area; 100% foresee the possibility of remaining under short intensive observation or in a hospital environment in case of high risk of re-victimisation; 86.4% have set up a protected area separate from the general waiting area; 92.11% guarantee a visit within a maximum of 20 minutes to reduce second thoughts or voluntary departures.

The type of violence that prevails is psychological, followed by physical, economic, stalking, harassment and digital violence.

405 people work in the Anti-Violence Centers of Veneto, of which 243 are paid and 162 are voluntary.
