«Asfo staff at the end of their strength, urgent action is needed» – Nordest24

Giuseppe Perricone, Regional Secretary of the UGL Health of Pordenone, expresses strong concern for the conditions of the healthcare personnel employed in local hospitals. In a recent statement, Perricone highlighted the critical situation that is worsening, despite the near completion of the new hospital, which he describes as “a decoy” used by the political class and ASFO’s top management.

Overtime hours and staff shortages

2023 saw an alarming number of overtime hours: as many as 133,000. This data, according to the trade unionist, not only confirms the chronic shortage of personnel but also underlines the slowness of the actions undertaken to mitigate this critical situation. The repercussions of this lack are tangible both in the overload of work for current employees and in the quality of the service offered to citizens.

Outsourcing of services and risks for workers

Perricone also criticized the decision to outsource the sampling centers in the Pordenone area, calling it “pure madness” which will increase costs for citizens, favoring private interests to the detriment of the public service. He also highlighted safety problems for 118 operators, citing a specific incident that occurred on April 25, when a water leak made some rooms unusable, requiring the intervention of the firefighters.

Call to action

The secretary concludes with a heartfelt appeal to politicians and company leaders for immediate change, threatening to take decisive action to protect workers’ rights and guarantee the safety of citizens, if the union’s requests remain unheard.
