TREVISO – He died at dawn, in his home in via Emo, Sergio Zorziwell-known face and gentleman from Treviso who is disappearing. Born in 1928 in Silea, he turned 95 last September. Having moved to Treviso as a young man, he had startedwork as a journeyman and at 16 years old he had escaped the bombing of 7 April 1944: a few minutes before the raid he had crossed Piazza dei Signori and when the planes dropped the bombs he was in the Fair area with his cart loaded with products. He managed to take shelter in a manhole and then discovered how devastated the city and the area of ​​the votive church had been, where in the following years he opened the shop. Yes, because Zorzi, after being manager of a food and dietary products shop in Piazza dei Signoribegan his own business by opening a bakery in Sant’Antonino.

THE WORK

Then he inaugurated a pastry workshop right in front of the votive church together with his beloved wife Clara D’Incà who passed away in September 2017: together they had formed an extraordinary couple, not only in their private life but also at work. They were old-time traders. And Sergio Zorzi saw entire generations pass by in that shop, recording the transformation of the neighborhood and the city. He has always been well liked by customers for his availabilityhis kind ways, always smiling and never angry, a true gentleman in his relationship with people.

PASSION

Having reached retirement age he began to actively cultivate his passion for painting as well as continuing to produce fine desserts. A person with refined charm, Sergio Zorzi had become a Valuable artist exhibiting in numerous personal and collective exhibitions not only in Treviso and the province but also around Italy. With that gentlemanly trait that has always distinguished him he was able to represent on canvas the beauty of the landscapes and the city. And on the subject of beauty, he was a lover of flowers: he personally took care of his garden, as he did with the vegetable garden, and he was proud of this. He leaves behind his daughter Eleonora, former director of the Treviso branch of Piemme, the company that handled advertising for Il Gazzettino, his son Michele, a doctor in the Padua area, his beloved grandchildren Simone and Giulia and his daughter-in-law Manuela. The last farewell on Thursday at 3.30pm in the farewell room of Santa Bona starting from the Cà Foncello morgue at 3.10pm.
