(ANSA) – BRUSSELS, APRIL 27 – A Europe on crutches, with Italy representing the bad leg. This is what is depicted in the poster which, in Maastricht, is the setting for the debate between the candidates for the European elections from the various groups sitting in the European Chamber which will be held on Monday evening. Eight Spitzenkandidat or leaders of EU political groups will participate in the debate, organized by Politico, starting with the outgoing president Ursula von der Leyen.

The cartoon depicted in the poster was relaunched by Eunews: there is a man, with a suffering face, with a blue t-shirt with the euro symbol and the word Europa. The man is on crutches and his bad leg has the shape of the Italian peninsula, complete with the Tricolor and the writing Italia. The author of the cartoon is Arend van Dam, a Dutch cartoonist born in Rotterdam and well known in his homeland for his “Political cartoons”, satirical cartoons on European politics. (HANDLE). .
