“The Tari will increase by 5%, Ghinelli must explain why”

Statement from the councilors of I choose Arezzo Marco Donati and Valentina Sileno.

“The assembly of mayors of the Southern Tuscany ATO, chaired by the mayor of Arezzo Alessandro Ghinelliapproved by majority the resolution which will determine an increase in the tax on waste. For the municipality of Arezzo this increase is around 5%. This increase was then made operational, with the vote of the majority forces of the municipality of Arezzo, Fratelli d’Italia, Lega, Forza Italia, Ora Ghinelli, during the last municipal council.

Not all mayors in the ATO Assembly voted in favor. For example, two administrations in the Arezzo area voted against: Sansepolcro And Castiglion Fiorentino. We ask ourselves why Arezzo, Sansepolcro and Castiglion Fiorentino, led by majorities of the same political colour, voted differently.

Ghinelli, who leads the assembly of mayors within the ATO South, has a great responsibility for this decision. I choose Arezzo during the last city council he expressed himself against the increase in the Tari and it was impossible to do otherwise because Mayor Ghinelli’s report absolutely did not convince us.

The Municipality of Arezzo is home to the plant and the waste treatment plant San Zeno is about to triple the quantity to be transformed into waste to energy, reaching 120,000 tonnes. Added to this is the fact that the treatment of wet waste has tripled, reaching 65,000 tonnes with consequences linked to odorous emissions. Despite bearing the burden of the treatment plant in their territory, the citizens of Arezzo pay on average a higher Tari than Grosseto, Lucca or Florence.

It is legitimate to ask ourselves why we take on other people’s waste and pay a higher Tari. We ask that a public debate be opened to better understand why Ghinelli voted in favor of the increase while Castiglion Fiorentino and Sansepolcro voted against and, above all, whether the citizens of Arezzo can receive bills lighter”.
