66 accommodations and a student residence

The vehicles will come into action in the middle of next week in Piazzale Visconti, at Villaggio Sposi, to begin demolishing the two buildings owned by Aler. Here, for a few weeks, the Municipality of Bergamo has already started the complete renovation of three other buildings that house public housing. In total there are therefore 5 buildings on which work is being done, for a total of 66 public residential apartments which will be returned at the end of the construction site, compared to the current 48. The Pinqua project (National Innovative Program for the Quality of Living) comes to life, a 16 million euro loan linked to the Pnrr which has made it possible to redevelop an entire block within the neighbourhood. A project which also involves the construction of a new square and underground parking.

Among the innovations brought by the new project, a student residence. Corrado Zambelli, president of Aler Bergamo, Lecco and Sondrio, explains: «The number of accommodations increases from 24 to 40, of which 2 “clusters” dedicated to students. There will be 10 studio apartments with attached bathroom, while the kitchen and relaxation room will be shared. In the buildings there will also be a room for the social pantry and a room used as a social concierge. They will be buildings of a new concept: from the first floor to the third, a structure made of load-bearing panels in “xlam”, an innovative laminated wood material, will be used”.

There are three lots on Piazzale Visconti, financed by Pinqua. The first concerns the Municipality of Bergamo, with three buildings to be completely redeveloped, the second Aler, with two buildings to be demolished and rebuilt from scratch, while the third lot has the new square in the centre. The Municipality of Bergamo and Aler are working in tandem on the redevelopment of Piazzale Visconti. Upon completion of the project, in about a year, the city will have a total of 66 new apartments, compared to the current 48.

It was said that Palafrizzoni started the construction site a few weeks ago: «We started with the central building, emptied it and removed the plaster and planks – explains the councilor for Public Works Marco Brembilla –. With the other two buildings we were more “cautious”, given that inside these buildings there are apartments that are not our property. It will take a year and a half of work, after which we will be able to make 26 new apartments available, two more than today. It is an important project which concerns five buildings in total, first financed by Pinqua and then merged into Pnrr funds. In addition to the buildings, there will be underground car parks and a new square: after discussion with the neighborhood network, which I have already met and which has already given suggestions, the project will be established, it is a job that we will do together with Aler”.

Zambelli, Aler’s president, updates the progress of the works: «The strip out has already been carried out, the buildings are therefore completely empty and we should start the demolition by the middle of next week which will be completed by the middle of May. All the underground services have also already been removed.” Lot number three concerns the square, but will be the last to be built: «Once the demolition of the buildings has been completed, the four meter deep excavation will begin, so as to prepare the underground car parks – Zambelli goes into detail –. Once the buildings have been built, we will proceed with the square. We are satisfied with how this project is progressing, we are respecting the set times, the construction site will be delivered in May next year”.
