Viterbo – “I haven’t been to the Shrine for a long time now, precisely out of fear…”. The citizens’ cry of alarm spreads across social media. Exasperated by the continuous episodes of violence which translate into a condition of continuous insecurity and fear, they say they are “tired” and nostalgic for the Viterbo that once was. “I miss the city of 30 years ago… what a bad end” they write.
And yesterday, at the Shrine, yet another episode. Raw, violent. With almost movie-like scenes. A wild west that saw dozens of people as protagonists. First children, then also adults who, according to what has emerged so far, attempted to run over themselves with a large white car, an Audi, and subsequently moved on to physical attacks. With kicks, punches and bars. Those same large wooden bars visible in the dozens of photos that went around the web in just a few minutes. And with which a car was destroyed.
The police, carabinieri and 118 arrived immediately on site, alerted by some witnesses, to provide aid to the injured people. At least four. And while the citizens and tourists present fled, frightened by the violence and barbaric screams, on social media, from that moment on, all the fears, anxieties and worries of residents in the neighborhood poured out. Unfortunately, we are used to scenes like this. “We are in total disarray” they write. “It gets worse and worse,” someone else replies. “I have never been so ashamed of my city” he underlines dejectedly. “And to think that only last February – they recall -, the mayor was pleased to shout out the city’s safety data”.
“I learned – says a citizen – that there isn’t even a municipal camera in that square. Cameras that cost a few tens of euros. And to say that you know what happens there every day. It is an area of the center that has been out of control for years now.”
There are also those who propose possible solutions to stem this drift. “But a permanent presence to control and moderate these continuous episodes, safeguard the safety of citizens and the poor impression with tourists, is it still not necessary?” they ask themselves.
At least 6 people have been identified by the police. And some of the protagonists of the maxirissa were immediately taken to the police station. All also thanks to footage from private surveillance cameras. The prosecutor’s office is investigating the matter and in particular prosecutor Paola Conti who is examining the footage taken by citizens and fixed cameras. There will be many witnesses to the facts who will probably be interviewed to reconstruct the facts.
