Stefano Pioli resolves the last doubts about the formation before the top ranking match between Milan and Massimiliano Allegri’s Juventus.

Pioli takes refuge in his best eleven, now that only the championship games remain. The reference formation appears to be the more traditional 4-2-3-1, compared to the more mobile formation that saw Leao as center forward against Inter. At the same time, Pioli has to take note of some significant absences. The last one, that of Jovic who will be absent due to a physical problem he suffered during the day. The heaviest, however, were the disqualifications of Tomori, Theo Hernandez and Calabria, remedied in Monday’s derby. Pioli thus had to reformulate the defense from scratch, without three-quarters of the starters from the last match.

Maignan is not touched in goal, always a starter and out of the question in rotations. Alongside Gabbia, now a certainty in terms of playing time, there will be Malick Thiaw, ready to mark Dusan Vlahovic. On the wings, behind, on the left, Florenzi replaces Theo Hernandez as has already happened in the past, while Musah will occupy the squares held by Calabria on the right. The American, thus, proves to be a versatile player who is certainly reliable on multiple sides of the pitch, as well as decidedly generous.

In midfield Adli and Reijnders are the favorites from the first minutewith the former – as usual – highly motivated even in the non-possession phase, as Stefano Pioli also declared in the press conference held today.

In front of them, as often happened this season, Leao and Pulisic, untouchable, while Chukwueze, therefore, still starts from the bench. However, watch out for the Nigerian who probably won’t have a few minutes in this match (also due to the few options from the bench). There’s Loftus-Cheek behind the striker, ready for the proverbial entrances and runs towards the penalty area. For the center forward role, Giroud’s candidacy prevails.

MILAN (4-2-3-1): Maignan, Musah, Thiaw, Gabbia, Florenzi, Adli, Reijnders, Pulisic, Loftus-Cheek, Leao; Giroud. All: Pegs.
