Hayles and Thorogood Advance at Penn Relays

Two members of the Orange advanced to Saturday’s finals at the Penn Relays.

Jaheem Hayles won his prelim heat of the 110-meter hurdles to move on to Saturday’s final. He crossed the line in 13.65 seconds, which was the third-fastest time across all heats. Naseem Smith took 14th in the event (14.07 seconds), followed by Anthony Vazquez (14.46 seconds) and Emmanuel Joseph (14.62 seconds).

Trei Thorogood also advanced to Saturday’s final in the 100-meter dash after taking seventh in the prelims in a time of 10.47 seconds.

The women’s 4×100-meter relay squad of Cutting Buxton, Kahniya James, Shaleah Colaire and Kitana Burgard ran to a time of 45.70 seconds, which was good for 11th.

Burgard placed 16th in the 100-meter dash (11.90 seconds) later in the day, followed by James (12.37 seconds).

Colaire finished 12th in the 100-meter hurdles after crossing the line in 13.75 seconds. Buxton was 27th in 14.34 seconds.

On Thursday, Elijah Mallard he was 10th in the 400-meter hurdles. He posted a time of 52.42 seconds. Xayvion Perkins was 30th. Colaire (1:00.12) was 15th in the women’s race.

The meet will wrap up with Thorogood racing at 12:20 pm in the 100-meter dash finals, followed by Hayles’ hurdles final at 1:50 pm on Saturday.
