In prison after a series of violence

A decisive turning point was implemented by the police forces Agrigento with the execution of the order of the Supervisory Court, which revoked the probationary assignment to social services in favor of detention in prison for a local citizen after a series of serious episodes of violence.

The State Police, acting on a judicial warrant on Monday, ended the probation of a man from Agrigento, who in recent days had shown increasing aggression towards citizens and law enforcement.

Among the most alarming episodes, there is the attack on an employee of a pizzeria in the San Leone district, followed by the attacker’s escape on a scooter.

The intervention of the police cars was not limited to this episode. Subsequently, a new emergency call from another establishment in the same seaside area required the presence of the police due to a visibly altered man who was creating disorder.

Upon seeing the officers, he attempted to attack them, but was promptly blocked and arrested.

The charges brought against the man include personal injury, resistance and violence against a public official, serious threats, as well as damage to public and private property.

A particularly serious episode occurred at the San Giovanni di Dio Hospital, where the subject, in a highly altered state, threatened healthcare personnel and damaged medical equipment.

These behaviors led the Surveillance Court to revoke the probationary custody previously granted, ordering the man’s immediate transfer to the prison in Agrigento.

This case highlights the ongoing challenge in managing people under special surveillance and raises questions about the effectiveness of social reintegration measures for individuals with highly antisocial behaviour.
