ANCONA The May long weekend is expected to attract large numbers, thanks to the San Ciriaco Fair which attracts tens of thousands of visitors every year. But this year, according to hospitality operators, there would be a driving force due precisely to the city and its peculiarities which are also attracting visitors from outside the region: hotel bookings attest to this. And then there’s summer just around the corner. In short, the capital cannot be caught unprepared. Does Ancona lack ad hoc tourist products to best sell the experience of the area? At the moment yes, but the Municipality is working on it. And it’s not just a promise. «In June, postcards will be distributed with a QR code that links to a web page with all the places to visit, in and around the city» states the Tourism councilor, Daniele Berardinelli. The postcard is practically ready. It just needs to be produced in a quantity that can satisfy the potential diffusion.

The instrument

To clarify: the postcard tool will be intended exclusively for tourists passing through the port. «Those who embark to go to the other side of the Adriatic and to whom we can meanwhile suggest how to pass the time. But above all it is an invitation to come back and visit us and try to spend your next holiday here, between the Conero sea and our city, instead of sailing to Greece” explains the councilor. But this is only one of the targets the Municipality is addressing. Berardinelli has put a lot of irons in the fire. Obviously he doesn’t work alone: ​​«We have a staff of experts with us, including the Univpm with Prof Temperini for marketing». The councilor wants to push on thematic packages and communication. «On the former we are already gearing up with the local tourist agencies that deal with incoming – he says – and on the promotion the accelerated will come with the total revision of the Ancona Tourism website and the creation of an app that indicates the entire offer plan of the city and the territory: from visits to accommodation facilities”. The timing: «We are waiting for the outcome of a regional tender for 45 thousand euros of funding – he specifies -, if we were to win it the timing will be relatively short». Maybe not by this summer, but for the winter definitely yes.

The comunication

And when it comes to communication, the info point cannot be ignored. In addition to the newsstand in Piazza Roma, the Municipality is planning a second, and decidedly more evocative, information point. In the meantime, you will find yourself at the mouth of the port: «In Piazza Dante, exactly – Berardinelli points out – inside the premises of the former Urban Center under Palazzo degli Anziani». Four doors that hide as many currently empty spaces inside the ancient building. «You have to furnish them from scratch» underlines the councilor, and this is why the timescales for completing this project are still indecipherable. But the process has started. No second thoughts. Indeed, some promotional activities to be carried out within the info point have already been outlined.

Immersive travel

«We will give visitors virtual reality viewers that will reproduce immersive journeys into our peculiarities: from the Roman amphitheater and the historic city to the beauties of the Conero» says Berardinelli, who also intends to push hard on the social communication front. «I have already met with an expert in the sector – says the councilor – to whom we would like to give control of the entire social media game relating to tourism». Berardinelli put the car into gear, the car took off.
