If in Parliament there is talk of a first step which is ‘historical’, the medical association of Siena has clearly rejected the reform of access to medical school.
The basic act, adopted by the select committee of the Senate education commission, provides for free enrollment in the first semester of studies without having to take the dreaded admission test.
However, to access the second part of the academic year it will be necessary to pass certain exams. If these subjects were not passed, the students would still have credits to use in other faculties.
The federation of national medical orders and the Sienese order itself are against the novelty. “Last year 70 thousand kids tried the test. Universities have less than half of the places”, pointed out the president Roberto Monaco.
“Our fear and our doubts are about the quality of training for 70 thousand people – he pointed out -. Students who are not admitted to the second semester risk wasting a year of their lives in vain.”
Among the critical issues highlighted by the orders is also that of creating a plethora of white coats who could be unemployed in a few years. Among Munich’s requests, however, is that of strengthening the biomedical curvature system, which prepares high school students for university studies in the healthcare sector.
An initiative of this kind has already been activated at the Siena Scientific High School. And thanks to this, the doctor informs, 100% of the Galileo students who took the test entered Medicine.
“We use the last year of scientific and classical high schools to ensure that young people begin to learn about these subjects – he continues – An experiment already exists and more than three hundred Italian schools are participating”.
