Cosenza – “An immediate and urgent meeting with the President of the Calabria Region, Roberto Occhiuto, who cannot decide not to “decide”, leaving the field free to RFI on a topic of fundamental importance for the overall development of our regional territory such as the High speed”. This is the decision taken by the Mayors of the Calabria AV Scientific Technical Committee, who met this morning in the Representative Room of Palazzo dei Bruzi to share the technical summary document of the analysis work carried out by the technical component of the same committee on the AV railway project Salerno – Reggio Calabria. The meeting, chaired by the mayor Franz Caruso, was attended by the mayors of Castrovillari, Domenico Lo Polito, of Tarsia, Roberto Ameruso, and, delegated by the mayor of Cassano allo Ionio, the LLPP councilor Leonardo Sposato; Demetrio Festa, Luigi Martirano, Giuseppe Lo Feudo, for the technical component of which prof is also part. Roberto Musmanno. Although absent due to other institutional commitments previously undertaken, the mayors of Acri, Pino Capalbo, and of San Marco Argentano, Virginia Mariotti, also shared the outcome of the meeting.

From the discussion it emerged that the First Citizens fully shared the conclusions of the technical document, which reiterate the mandatory need to carry out the work using the internal route passing through Tarsia and Cosenza.
“The construction of the HS line – it was stated during the meeting – constitutes an unrepeatable opportunity for the economic and social growth of Calabria and for this reason it must be built in the internal territory which allows use by the entire territory of the strip Ionian coast of Calabria, maintaining the barycentric nature of the Cosenza capital.
Furthermore, the median route passing through Tarsia would become strategic for traffic flows from Sicily and Calabria itself towards the Adriatic corridor, determining the natural complement to the construction of the Bridge over the Strait.
In any case, the choice of route cannot be reduced to a mere technical fact, considering the strategic importance and uniqueness of the work, which concerns the development of the Calabrian territory in the coming decades”.

During the meeting, strong doubts emerged about the actual desire to carry out the work, also considering the news of defunding of sections of the line, with the real risk that the work will stop in Romagnano without even reaching Praia.
To this end, the Mayor of Cosenza on behalf of the Technical Political Committee AV Calabria expresses the determined desire to initiate incisive and strong action at the various institutional levels by immediately asking for an immediate discussion with the President of the Calabria Region in order to solicit a strong grip of the Region’s position to share a common path with incisive actions towards the Ministry and the RFI itself.
