An open-air museum
As he points out Silvestrelli in the text in the catalogue, in the last 15 years Rome has transformed into a real open-air museum, with murals that embellish every corner of the city. From Ostiense to the Borghesiana, from Quadraro to Ottaviathese urban works of art have revolutionized the urban landscape, becoming an integral part of the social and cultural fabric of the Capital.
Behind the scenes of street art
Rome Mural Sketch allows you to admire the preparatory sketches of the murals, precious documents that reveal the creative process of the artists. Through these sketches, it is possible to enter the minds of the artists and understand their ideas, inspirations and techniques used to create their works. “The sketches – underlines the curator – they represent one of the most important stages of the creative process, the materialization of an idea into reality“.
An invitation to explore the city
The exhibition is also an invitation to discover or rediscover the city of Rome through the lens of street art. Rome Mural Sketch in fact, it suggests an itinerary through the neighborhoods of the capital, in search of the murals that the artists have immortalized in their sketches.
“As well as getting lost in the vastness of Rome’s urban space – Silvestrelli writes again – the exhibition also allows you to move through time. You can take a chronological path starting from 2010 and reaching 2023 or go backwards. Nothing prevents you from making ‘time jumps’ and everyone is free to create their own very personal itinerary. It should not be forgotten that, since it is urban art, some of the murals may not be in perfect condition. Or even no longer exist. Time passes and everything changes, transforms or erases. It seems paradoxical, but it is also like this for the Eternal City“.
