the future of longevity passes through digital

The event “Road to Longevity: digital for health, inclusion and protection of fragility” took place in Pescara at the headquarters of Confindustria Abruzzo Medio Adriatico with interventions by key figures from the regional healthcare panorama

The inaugural stage of the second edition of the national Roadshow of the Silver Economy Network, the first Italian Confindustria network of companies and associations offering products and services dedicated to the Over 55s, was held yesterday at the Confindustria Abruzzo Medio Adriatico headquarters.

The event is part of a project created to promote dialogue on the present and future of longevity between companies and institutions from different territories with respect to specific thematic clusters and guide the development of a system that can support its socio-economic implications.

The Silver Economy represents, in fact, a strategic supply chain for Italy, with a percentage of Over 55s destined to reach 46.9% of the total population in 2050, with a greater growth in the incidence in the Southern Regions where this value, again in 2050, it will rise to 49.2% from 37.3% in 2022. (“Longevity Scenario, 2023 Report”, Silver Economy Network Observatory).

Longennials constitute a backbone of the national economy: according to data from the Ministry of Economy and Finance, in fact, in 2021, the value of income generated by taxpayers over 55 was equal to 461.8 billion euros, 27 .5% of the national GDP, with a value of 109.8 billion euros recorded in the Southern Regions (“Longevity Scenario, 2023 Report”, Silver Economy Network Observatory).

These numbers denote the importance that this segment of the population has for the country system and highlight the need for an offer of goods and services that keeps pace with the needs and consumption trends of an increasingly digitalized and interconnected target, starting from the health and social-health world.

Furthermore, taking into consideration the sphere of digital medicine, according to data from a survey conducted by the Silver Economy Network Observatory, in 66% of cases seniors consider themselves digitally ready to use e-health devices and almost 60 % of those who do not benefit from it feel inclined to do so in the future, mainly to consolidate the direct relationship with their doctor.

In Abruzzo, the over 80s will increase by 30% by 2040, going from 8.1% (one hundred and thirty-five thousand) to almost 12% of the regional population, in the face of a reduction in young people: the challenges to be faced will therefore be multiple, with a potential increase in demand for health and assistance (+30% if we consider the resident population) and the need to cover the most remote areas of the territory.

The Health Section of Confindustria Abruzzo Medio Adriatico and the Silver Economy Network have chosen to address the issues of technological integration and territorial assistance for health, inclusion and protection of fragility in the opening event of the Roadshow Project, thanks also to the presence of key institutional figures of the territory, such as Nicoletta Verì, Councilor for Health and Equal Opportunities of the Abruzzo Region and Thomas Schael, General Director of the Lanciano Healthcare Company, Vasto, Chieti.

Antonio Monteferrante – President of the Health Section of Confindustria Abruzzo Medio Adriatico – underlined how technological integration and local assistance are the path to follow for the future; technological solutions constitute an opportunity to improve results from a clinical and healthcare point of view, while constituting a fundamental tool for generating management policies capable of optimizing the efficiency of the healthcare and healthcare system. dimension of constant and continuous automated monitoring will allow us to generate more significant qualitative results for patients, promoting their social reintegration in the fastest and most complete way possible.”

Case histories from the business world were presented with Mauro Menzietti, Administrator of the MAICO Hearing Institute, President of the National Association of Hearing Aid Prosthetists (ANA), Representative for Italy in the WHF WHO Steering Committee and Davide Presutti, CEO Neosperience Health.

Mariuccia Rossini, President of the Silver Economy Network, I brought her greetings to the large audience of entrepreneurs and sector operators present in the room, while the introduction and moderation were by Felice Lopane, General Secretary of the Silver Economy Network.
