Checks on articulated vehicles, tachograph alteration devices discovered: a complaint

The State Police, as part of specific operational services aimed at road traffic safety and the safety of drivers of heavy vehicles, carried out a series of administrative checks at some haulage companies in the municipality of San Severo.

In particular, the staff of the Foggia Traffic Police ascertained that numerous drivers of the articulated vehicles used for the transport of goods did not observe the times strictly established by law regarding the hours of rest. From a more careful mechanical check on the vehicles checked, the police would have identified tachograph alteration devices which, once activated, with hidden buttons, would have distorted driving and rest times. All of this would have jeopardized the safety and security of lorry drivers and other road users.

The activity ended with numerous administrative complaints, for over 10,000 euros in fines and the denunciation in a state of freedom, to the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Foggia, of the sole director of a transport company from Torremaggiore subjected to preliminary investigations in relation to the crime of “willful removal or omission of precautions against accidents at work”.

The case is pending at the preliminary investigation stage.
