Complex analysis of the manufacturing sector in the Marche: growth and challenges
Descriptive text here

In the analysis of the economic reality of Marche, it emerges that the region is positioned as an epicenter of industrial production in Italy. The statistics show an increase in the number of employed people, a sign of appreciable dynamism. However, there is no shortage of critical aspects to consider, including non-competitive wagesa decline in permanent contracts in favor of more precarious forms of employment, a worrying demographic decrease, and a non-negligible frequency of Accidents at work.

From the report of Eurostat 2022, it can be seen that 20% of industrial employment in the Marche region is concentrated in sectors considered low or medium-low technology. The updated data of 2023 provided byInps and reworked byCISL Marche Research Office reveal significant changes: hiring in the industrial sector fell from 22% in 2014 to 17% in 2023, while construction showed slight growth. Professional activities and services, including accommodation and catering, have seen a substantial increase.

These data suggest a slowdown in innovations and an increase in job insecurity, which translates into general impoverishment and an increase in social disparities. This uncomfortable situation reflects the challenges of a region in transition, which risks falling behind other more advanced ones.

Marco Ferracutigeneral secretary of CISL Marche, underlines the need to guide businesses towards the intelligent use of European funds and promote economic transitions that embrace innovation in all its forms. Continuous training of workers and collaborations between companies are crucial to raise skills and stimulate the exchange of resources.

The data of 2023 show that only 11% of hires were permanent, while the majority of contracts are characterized by their temporary or intermittent nature. This aspect, combined with low wages, highlights the difficulty in combating poverty, despite positive signals from the labor market.

There CISL proposes the creation of a dialogue table between social partners and universities to develop a shared growth model, aiming for a “Pact for the Marche 2030” that outlines a strategy for a sustainable and inclusive future.

Despite a reduction in workplace accidents since 1976, they remain a significant problem, as do occupational diseases. Demography also presents challenges, with a negative natural balance only partially mitigated by net migration.

This complex scenario requires active and improved work policies to ensure dignified and sustainable employment, thus responding to the needs of all citizens of the Marche region.
