Quaestor Salvo at La Spezia, ‘arrival without recriminations’ – News

Commissioner Sebastiano Salvo, a 60-year-old arriving from Pisa, takes up service in La Spezia. The manager was transferred after eight months following police attacks at the end of February on a pro-Gaza student demonstration, which led to the injury of some minors and the opening of an investigation. “I reflected with great serenity and I believe that when a rift is created between a city and the Police, as an institution, this rift must be mended as soon as possible. The police commissioner is the technical authority in a case like that, whose responsibility is an objective fact. I think this was the center of the public administration’s reflection”, he said this morning when he took office in the Ligurian city, admitting that he felt “great regret for me personally, but because the image of the Police was at stake who I’m in love with.”

Salvo returns to his region of origin having been born in Genoa, where he was chief of staff and deputy police commissioner, before moving on to become police commissioner in Asti and Pisa. “I am a state official and I try to do my job as best as I can wherever I am destined. I take up this role at La Spezia with the usual enthusiasm and without recriminations and I thank the public administration for having sent me to a high-level office”.

Among the most debated issues in La Spezia is that of gangmastering in the shipyard sector: “There is an investigative part to be done to understand what the entry chains of foreign labor are and there is an ethical aspect to be shared together with ‘entrepreneurship”. The city is also home to a naval base and sensitive military industries and infrastructure. “The international climate we are experiencing leads to growing attention – said Salvo -. Physical activity is needed in the area but also the activation of investigative channels, sources open to information exchanges with the intelligence services”.
