VARESE – Asst Sette Laghi, Lombardy Region and the Il Circolo della Bontà Foundation together to offer subsidized rent accommodation to employees of the hospitals and districts of Varese.
The project
The project, on which the two institutions and the Third Sector body are working, consists of setting up small apartments to be offered at a subsidized rent in the building of property of Asst Sette Laghi which overlooks Via Lazio, not far from the entrance to the Circolo di Varese hospital.
Forward-looking constraint
«The building has an intended use that binds it to be used to accommodate hospital staff – explains the Director of Asst Sette Laghi, Giuseppe Micale– A far-sighted bond, which is very relevant today. Until a few years ago, moreover, the building already housed some employees. Now, however, a decisive intervention is necessary not only to renovate the property, but also to reorganize the internal spaces, so as to obtain a greater number of apartments and meet the needs of more employees. In this initiative we immediately encountered the availability of the Il Circolo della Bontà Foundation, which I thank for the commitment with which it is facing the challenge”.
We will involve communities
«Immediate convergence with the General Director of Asst Sette Laghi and the Regional Councilor for Welfare – summarizes the President of the Foundation, Gianni Spartà– The problem of the lack of health professionals, especially nurses, can be started by resolving that building on the edge of Via Lazio and the inalienable property of the hospital. It is possible to create fifteen two-room apartments, also making use of the attic. The Il Circolo della Bontà Foundation has already financed and delivered the project for this redevelopment. It also committed, in a letter of intent, to assist Asst Sette Laghi in the necessary works. We will involve communities as happened during the Covid emergency. Staff going to work elsewhere is also an emergency. The people responded then, they will respond today, in everyone’s interest. Ten years ago the Foundation gave the decisive push for the take-off of the Dama service, the flagship of Asst Sette Laghi. Today we support a good healthcare project. Giuseppe Zamberletti, founder and guarantor of Il Circolo della Bontà, said that a community and generalist foundation like ours was a sort of hospital civil protection”.
Initiatives laboratory
«As already happened for the recruitment of nurses from South America – points out the Regional Councilor for Welfare, Guido Bertolaso– also in this case, with the provision of accommodation for healthcare personnel in partnership with local authorities, the Asst Sette Laghi represents a laboratory for testing initiatives that we are planning and outlining at a regional level”.
