PORDENONE – The weather is bad Wise. Nobody has the courage to say it openly, but the fear is that the new Belgian ownership could do what it has already done with another factory: close and centralize production in China. Obviously, fortunately, there is no certainty that this can happen, but according to Roberto Zaami, general secretary of the Uilm of the province of Pordenone, not only are there worrying signs, but some precise indications point towards a dangerous path.

THE SITUATION
«I feel like stating – explains Zaami – that Savio is currently the company that is in the worst situation in the province. Furthermore, there are problems that we don’t like, because there isn’t good communication after the management has changed in addition to the ownership. Meanwhile, communication is lacking. The information that comes out of the personnel director is little and incomplete, so we are in the dark about the plans for the future. Furthermore, there is a problem linked to the industrial plan which is progressing slowly. There are investments that were planned, or rather, should have already been made, which instead are not proceeding, or are doing so very slowly. Others, however, have a speed according to the plan that had been approved. However, there is no sign of the processes that are currently outsourced and which the company had undertaken to bring back within the factory. Not even a shadow of those, at least until now. And then – Roberto Zaami continues – there is the issue of the redundancy fund which was really heavy”.

THE WORK
And the redundancy fund is one of the issues that worries us the most. «Since the beginning of the year – says the provincial secretary of Uilm – there have been at least ten weeks of cash. This means that the plant has been working for longer on narrow gauge than on full gauge. From next week the holidays will start, then everyone will return to work and from the 6th, at least I think, there will be another two weeks of cash. a production that is actually fluctuating and which is truly worrying for the future. Also because – pushes Zaami – there is no linear dialogue with the management, they speak very little, they say practically nothing and therefore we have no certainty about the future. Furthermore, there is little transparency even on the redundancy fund shifts. Let’s not forget that the fund also implies significant reductions in salary. We had asked on several occasions for there to be shifts, for cycles to be respected in order to give everyone the opportunity to work. In reality, at present we have not had any communication and I can state, without a shadow of contradiction, that we know nothing about who goes to the cashier’s office and who remains at work”.

THE FUTURE
«We have no certainties – concludes Roberto Zaami – and for this reason, as I have already said, we are very worried. At Savio they should have already composed the new textile machines, the high-tech ones, but instead they are still creating the older ones in an international market that has a truly complex scenario. This is the current situation of a large factory that has made history, but which now risks losing pace with everything that comes with it.” There are over 300 workers in the factory.
