Water, territory and sustainability: Finnish students in Como

Open up to European and non-European cultures, encouraging the comparison and sharing of different teaching and educational experiences, as well as strengthening linguistic skills. These are the objectives of the Setificio’s internationalization department, which in recent days welcomed 10 students and three teachers from a Finnish school, as part of the Erasmus+ School programme. In March, the students from Como were in Finland working on various topics, mainly linked to environmental problems and the care of the water resources of lakes and oceans.

«All the activities we have done are covered by European funds, even for our kids who have gone abroad – explains the teacher Elena Tampellini, contact person for internationalization -. Some students were able to participate in the so-called Long Term mobilities, attending a European school in Ireland, Spain and Slovakia for a long period, from 1 to 4 months. We are also accredited in the Vet (Vocational Education and Training) Erasmus+ program, linked to the world of work: with this funding, every year around 40 fourth, fifth and post-diploma students experience a period of 1-3 months of internship in a company of the field of study and personal interest. Our kids were able to participate in internships in the chemistry, graphics and fashion areas in Berlin, Vienna, Copenhagen, Seville, Jerez and Lisbon.” With the Finnish students, the kids from the Setificio discussed the topics of land care and environmental sustainability, in particular the care of the water, both of Lake Como and of one of their lakes, with analysis and sampling activities in the laboratory. The kids in Türkiye, on the other hand, will deal with the topic of human rights. Naturally, there is never a shortage of visits to different cities and moments of leisure, opportunities to make friends with foreign kids and come into contact with different cultures.
