VENICE – In Veneto next school year there will be almost ten thousand students less than today. With the most significant drop in middle school: -3,033 boys. The data comes fromRegional school office for Veneto who took stock of the number of teachers on staff, noting a substantial balance as regards teachers. «We should have reached 46,994 teachers on staff by right for the next school year 2024-25. So it was. An important piece for the start of the next school year is in place, the deadline was set for April 18th. The objective of 3867 common strengthening posts was also achieved. Support posts distributed, 8,106. Now the schools have at their disposal what we could call the “organic plan” for 2024-25″, reads a note from the former Education Authority.

THE TEACHERS
As indicated in the table alongside, the next school year will see a total of 48,385 teachers, of which 46,994 “full positions” and 1,391 “hourly positions”. This is a first assignment. As regards “full places”, compared to the current school year, the next one will see provinces decreasing and others growing: Belluno -5, Padua +10, Rovigo -10, Treviso -11, Venice -5, Verona + 10. Vicenza +10. Overall, in one year, Veneto will go from 46,995 legal staff positions to 46,994.
“For each educational institution – explains a note from the regional school office for the Veneto – the quantity and type of chairs and places have been defined, intended for the teaching staff necessary to carry out the teaching activities, without prejudice to subsequent adjustments on the ground. With this first phase, the legal staff was defined on the basis of the number of students and the quota assigned by the Ministry of Education and Merit. The second phase will take place in the next few months with the definition of the de facto workforce, i.e. the adaptation of the legal workforce to the existing de facto situation. In the second phase, account is taken of the transfer of pupils from one school to another, of adjustments in enrolments, of requests for support teachers in derogation from the number established in the legal staffing, of places in hospital and prison institutions, of places for special projects such as the recovery of school dropouts. For the second phase, 1471 places are available, and many are still to be assigned.”
But the most significant data – as the table above indicates – is the drop in students. “Veneto – notes the school office – has lost 9,374 students, the largest hemorrhage occurred in the lower secondary school with -3033 students. Despite this, in the entire Region there is only one place less; last year, in fact, the legal staff consisted of 46,995 professorships. By virtue of the commitments made with the European Union in relation to the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, 637 places were assigned in derogation to Veneto, precisely with a view to reducing the teacher/student ratio, thus improving a fundamental parameter for the quality of school”.
Meanwhile, the general director of the Regional School Office for Veneto, Marco Bussetti, thanked the employees of the structure: «In line with the times that the ministry has given us, the staff are ready. Despite the demographic crisis, we are not reducing the number of teachers, which remains stable, improving the student-teacher ratio and the quality of our Veneto school.”
